about

"Dreams from the Cave" is a varied collection of songs cover a wide range of moods. Think of it as a soundtrack with both electric guitar ambient rock epics and uplifting acoustic songs with a number of moody interludes. It's kind of a mesh between Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Acoustic Alchemy."

After finishing my cd, “Walking Free,” in 2007, I decided I would give out copies to some friends who I had invited to a small birthday dinner. While I was burning the copies I thought, what the heck, while I’m handing out this CD, I’ll give them another cd with some of my older recordings. I decided to name this second cd, “Dreams from the Cave.”

Though the songs on “Dreams” where recorded between 1997 and 2000, I never formally released the cd because I didn’t consider the songs to be finished. It wasn’t until I started getting phone calls from my friends telling me how much they were enjoying the music that I considered “formally” releasing “Dreams” to the public. So here it is.

I hope you also enjoy the music and experience some of the magic that I still hear when I listen to my “Dreams from the Cave.”

Sincerely,

Robert James Boswell

* For the record, no pun intended, if you are wondering why I didn’t go back and finish the recordings, I’ll tell you. All of these songs were recorded during the period when I was first learning how to record, compose and arrange instrumental music. I was still finding my voice as an instrumental guitarist and composer and most of my songwriting experience was working with bands, composing songs that featured vocals and lyrics.

The result of all this was that there was a long, long, long gap between the time I would get an idea for a song and the time I could produce a recording of it. It was not uncommon for me to spend months on one piece only to come to the end of my abilities and resources, with the song still incomplete. Usually, by that time, I was more than ready to begin production on some of the other ideas I had waiting to be developed. Unfortunately, the same pattern would emerge with whatever song I started next.

As a listener, you will probably take the songs just as they are and either like them or not. As a composer, I couldn’t help comparing the end result with how I wanted it to sound. Well, after about seven years, I guess I finally had enough distance to be able to accept the songs as they are. And now, another five years later, modern technology and Cd Baby make it easy to share this music with you.
