about

Album Description:
Nine lush instrumental songs woven into a musical journey with a fresh and sexy blend of blues, jazz and ambient rock, featuring electric and acoustic guitars accompanied by bass, drums, percussion and occasional vocals.

Album Notes:
The inspiration to create this recording was born out of my love for an amalgamation of different styles of instrumental guitar music and a desire to be able to play and to hear more of it. This calling began and grew with songs like Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Riviera Paradise,” “Lenny’” and "Stang’s Swang"; Eric Johnson’s “East Wes", “Trademark” and "Manhattan"; Pat Metheny’s “Spring Ain’t Here,” “Better Day’s Ahead” and “Have You Heard”; and finally Acoustic Alchemy’s “Missing Your Touch,” “Lady Linda” and “Papillon.” I hadn’t really played this kind of music before, so I had a bit of a learning curve ahead of me. I began by analyzing songs that had “that sound” and progressed into a self-study of jazz theory and improvisation.

During the period before the mastering of this CD, after all the music had been recorded, I had a profound shift in perspective (without the use of any mind altering substances) Up until that moment, I had believed that I had to be something special and extraordinary to be worthy of living and loving myself. After the shift, I saw that my true nature, what I really am is limitless, ineffable and perfectly complete—a mystery that cannot be added to or subtracted from. I experienced a level of consciousness, so vast and limitless, that many of the ambitions, opinions and personal traits that I considered to be important, and at the very core of who I was, were seen as insignificant. It wasn’t that these dreams and qualities didn’t have any value. It was that now they were existing within a larger perspective.

I began to see how--for much of my life--I had been held in bondage by some of the ways I’de thought and related to the experience I'd called my self. For me, Walking Free is about waking up, walking the journey and shedding the bonds that are revealed along the way, while simultaneously surrendering the conditioning of the past to the great mystery as it unfolds, one step at a time.
